Default Optional Extra Knowledge - Smartphone Intergration

Long shot but wondering if someone has an answer as Volvo Uk have given a difference of opinion..........

When ordering my car i was informed Android Auto can be installed one of two ways:

Factory build called Smartphone Integration
Or Dealer option which is just Android Auto and Carplay downloaded onto the car.

Both cost £300, so here is my question.......

Volvo Head Office informed initially that there is a difference and if i knew i wanted it, order as part of the build as its a different setup/hardware from factory build. Where as the dealer supplied is literally just software.

I called Volvo again to try and understand the difference and told there was not any.

So over to the knowledgeable crew on here...... Any clarity

I was assured it was the same thing. I had it retro fitted to my nearly new XC90 and it was software and an additional USB port. No difference that I can see from a friend's factory fitted version.

There used to be a difference as you did not get the second USB port but now you do so there is no difference between factory or dealer fit any more. Check with your dealer that they fit the second USB.

I don't think there will be a difference until Volvo launches the Wifidirect version from what I have read. So with Wifidirect it will need newer hardware in the head unit but no need to plug the phone into a cable / usb port.

You may want to check with Volvo Head Office on timescales for this...

I haven't especially ordered 'Smart Phone Integration (Android) for my new XC90 T6 Inscription which is going to have just the bog-standard radio system fitted.

But it was/is important to me that this will be present.

It has been confirmed to me, that it will be present with the usual Blue Tooth installation facilities and my dealer will not need to do anything to the car (ie. no dealer install is required).

eg.
Text Messages will be received on the car's 'dashboard'.
Voice Control will be able to be used by me to make Text Message replies

You get hands free text messages read out and can reply via voice control with standard system, no need for android auto, just tether your phone wifi or use a data sim in the in built sim holder.
