Hello,

A story like millions of others, meaning I'm just looking for a recommendation for a good place where I can get this done, someone who knows these engines and knows what they're doing... Volvo V60, 2011... but let me start with the engine – 5-cylinder model, manual, 2.4 diesel, D5, 205 horsepower... covered 135k miles, timing belt and V belt changed in February around 108k miles. Before the holidays, while driving on cruise control, a sudden loss of power, I stop and try to start it again several times without success. I tow the car to the mechanic, we check, and it turns out that the V-belt has unraveled and got between the timing belt, causing it to skip 5 teeth... I know, it's a tough situation... Now the question... Mechanics, There are many supposedly good ones, but I would like someone passionate about what they do..., I would like to add that I can transport the engine anywhere. I'm based in Essex

Cheers

What is it that you're looking to do with the engine? If the timing has skipped 5 teeth the damage is likely to be severe.

Try speaking to Tony @ IVS in letchworth, he may have some pointers if unable to do the work themselves.

I watched salvage rebuilds uk repair an XC60 whose cylinder head had been damaged by a snapped belt.

https://youtu.be/BO24oBb1iFc?si=QO_-bPwXKTOTsYxM

They reference that they got their replacement cylinder head from Autotech - they did a segment where Chris visited the workshop and exchanged the head & camshafts for replacement and discussed the head repair process.

This is exactly the route I would take if I were in that situation. Recon head and cams and as long as it’s rebuilt correctly no reason why it won’t be a good car again. You need to find the cause of belt failure and only use genuine bits to ensure it doesn’t happen again. And like you say finding a man to do the job who is going to do it to the standard required, ie as good as new.

Who did the belt replacement? Did they give you any sort of warranty on the work? Less than a year after having it done, I'd hope they might help you out ...

Yeah, how many miles did you put on the new belts and were the tensioners done? All Volvo parts?
