460 turbo 1991
My turbo seems to have packed in, it was working OK on the way in to work but on the way home, nothing.
When I am going along and put my foot down as it reaches the yellow part on the turbo gauge, I can hear a hissing noise form underneath. Now going up hills is getting embrassing as it crawls up at 25mph. Is there a easy fix for this or is my wallet crying for a reason? Any help would be appreciated. Sounds like a pipe might be loose, check that first, a turbo going is normally high ptiched and a little smelly at the rear end :-)

The hissing is likely to be a boost leak of somesort-try checking as many pipes as you can with the engine running and the bonnet up. Just keep revving it and listening for the hiss. If your Turbo had gone, i don't think your car would be capable of only 25mph-it would just drive like a 1.7i...unless you have a major problem and the car has gone to 'limp' mode.
How does the car drive normally? If you just drive i, say like town driving, how does it drive then?

I gave to a family friend who thought he could fix but it was going to cost too much so he scrapped it, but the scrappy has "fixed" it and is selling it.
I would touch it with a barge pole. |
