Default Anyone know the size of Universal Joint I should buy?

Hi folks, continuing from my saga trying to find a propshaft, the next thing is to replace the UJ.

I need to know the size i need to get, but as the propshaft is still on the car i can't measure it accurately enough.

So its a 1979/80 245DL with a smaller than usual UJ, according to haynes, the prop got bigger after 1987, so i presume they changed the size of UJ then.

any help is much appreciated, need to get to cardiff on saturday morning!! eek!

thanks in advance,
James

The 240s used three ujs over the years and models. Early one had small ujs, later middle size and some usually GLTs had a large one. If you measure the yoke the small one is about 69mm across, the mid size (most) is 88mm, the large is larger again - I haven't got a figure available. You can check the new uj - it will be about 7mm less across. There is a big difference in sizes so you shouldn't go wrong. Remember you have 3 ujs in total - you could either renew all three or take prop off and see which is either stiff or worn. To try to ensure balance mark prop so you keep parts in same alignment to each other.

I know my date of birth says I'm not so young but I still am at heart - its bad enough having grown up kids of my own without adopting you as well!!
Glad I could help.
