Help me identify my propshafts!
Brute force and ignorance here back for another installment of Amazon questions.
A gentleman off this forum met up with me yesterday to peruse my selection of propshafts that I bought in a job lot. We couldn't get in the lock up because of the idiot residents, but that's another story altogether. Anyway, after some conflab with the owner of said car causing the blockage, and bottoming everything out, I was able to get in to my pile of wreckage and dig things out for measurement. What it looks like I have is four overdrive props (one not pictured, which is of the same length as the top one, but powdercoated) and one standard M40 non OD type. Plus, what I *think* is a steering column, and a Panhard rod. I took some rough measurments of the prop faces and shaft lengths. 1 and 2 are identical. Face diameter: 8.5cm First section (face to shaft end) : 40cm Second shaft length: 69 cm 3: Face diameter: 8.5cm First section (face to shaft end) : 72cm Second shaft length: 65.5cm 4: Face diameter : 9.5cm First section (face to shaft end): 78cm Second shaft length: 78 cm A close up of what I think is a steering column: I also have what I think might be a tail shaft, which is 71.5cm long. Any help appreciated.

On another 'what is it' subject, could anyone tell me what Volvo this filter is off? I got them in a pack and they don't fit an Amazon after comparing them to an OEM filter, diameter is too wide and the filter itself is too deep.
The manufacturer's name is Soparis and is a CV 339, if that helps.

OK, I'll bite........
Googling the filters doesn't find me anything specific but if the screw thread is compatible and the rubber seal is the right diameter it will fit and should be usable. The Volvo filter is quite small and the early Golf diesel ones can be used and they are much bigger, maybe the same size as this one. Unfortunately the parts books don't give lengths for the propshaft pieces. Early ones used U bolts for the front UJ's but I believe these can be changed by using a different front flange. 2 types of centre bearing mount with the 2 studs and rubber grommets being early, the later ones have a 2 piece clamp. You have both types here. We'll assume that the short front sections are from a car with an OD or auto box. They have the same part number. Don't know what the longer one at the bottom is, maybe 140? 120 UJ's are all the same "small" ones but 140 has 2 sizes, I think it is 1 "small" and 2 a bit larger, but open to correction there. That probably doesn't help you much Jon but you could try a filter on a block. Get under your car with a tape measure.................. |

I really was guessing on what I had and thought there might be some uber expert on here that might be able to identify them on sight On the filter front I might take one down with me as I'm due to change the oil in Wales. Might be a useful flush pot..............
