Hi, I would say it would generally be around 25mpg, but on a run maybe 30mpg...

My 1988 240 GL (2 litre petrol injection) returns around 28mpg local rural motoring and on a good run anything up to 36mpg. As Steve says expect 25 ish or less if you are doing urban motoring and probably less than these figures when you are towing. Routine self maintenance is straightforward if you are into that sort of thing, and I would go for a non cat model.

Good luck

Phil

Hi mines a 240GL with B200E. On a full tank (11 gallons) I've 'pushed' it to around 310 - 315 miles. This is in normal use, so a mix of short journeys & the odd m/way run. Reckon that would make it 28 mpg.

On a run I'd expect that to go upto around 31, 32 perhaps.

I used to tow a 5-berth Swift Challenger 490SE Lux van, quite a lump, probably around 95% of the cars weight fully loaded. I never accurately worked out the mileage, but would think around 21-24 mpg tops.

(I'm looking into getting back into caravaning, so if I get one I'll be better placed to give further info on mileage towing...................)

One thing I do know with 200's, load em' up & stick a van on the back & you'll love em' even more. They just 'dig-in' & get on with it

I'm right at the bottom of the barrel as far as MPG are concerned: 1979 2.1 carburettor 245 estate with an auto. The carb needle is worn so the mix is a bit rich and the auto box has been slipping. Even in this condition, I've been getting 22mpg including fast roads and london traffic jams. I think any other 240 should do better- especially with an overdrive!
..or LPG! The 3 speed auto means 4000rpm at 70, not good for economy.

I've just done a trip of 500 miles, mainly 80mph on motorways, but including 30 miles across London, and 30 miles on rural roads here in Derbyshire, and it's just returned 32mpg. Pretty good really for a heavy 20year old car.

1989 2.0l 240GL saloon (injection).
Cheers Chris.
