The plastic nuts might be for the nuts that hold the alluminium shield on the car. I am talking from my head at the moment but i think there is a fairly sizeable heat shield near the back of the car that may or may not need removing. They are the only plastic nuts i can think of

Just checked Haynes again, sorry first didn't read to the end! By plastik nuts are meant the rings, that hold the sender and the pump. 3531425 and 3501322

Thanks Gernot. Plastic nuts + plastic retainer rings. That sounds right.
Dean, I have only had a very quick look under the car but was under there a few months ago to replace the rear exhaust hanger. I didn't notice any sort of heat shield. It would have been good to have a shield protecting the tank. If that had been the case this probably wouldn't have happened. |

Hej Derek,
the tank got two protection plates (as volvo them names), one at the side of the exhaustpipe and one on the rear side but this one isn't that important, I suppose, it's missing at my 850 too. And no, is doesn't really protect against vandalism! Gernot

The garage I use is very busy and so the car is booked in for fixing in a couple weeks time. It occurred to me that I might be able to cut a large section out of the corner of the old tank and mould it around the replacement to make it double skinned for a bit of extra protection. Off the wall maybe and I won't know how viable that might be until I get the "new" tank in a couple of days. 🤷*♂️

Car is back. Not too costly. Had an MOT done at the same time. Failed on a cracked rear tyre. Advisory on the other rear. Advisory on one of the drop links. Had 2 new tyres fitted. MOT now good except for the drop link advisory. Just a couple of gallons in the tank one from my can and the garage added another. On the way home I went to my local garage and put £30 of fuel in.
Problem. I may start another thread. Car wouldn't start to a normal idle after fill up. I did mange to catch it on the throttle and get it to run steadily at 3k rpm. If I let it go back to idle it would just stop the engine. Repeating it a few times I managed to get a 2k idle and with care a 1.5k idle but that was the best it could do. I pushed off the pump with some help. I was set to leave it at the garage and walk home to try and find some advice here. However with a bit of brutality I did mange to get it to drive on throttle and brake with only a couple of stall outs., luckily without getting in anyone's way. I've just parked it for now. I did phone the garage before it closed and they are baffled too. The owner had started and moved the car a couple of times and it did go through the MOT emissions OK. A new fuel filter was fitted. Battery wasn't disconnected during the tank change. He did say that they had done some work on a Zafira and that had lumpy running but was perfect the next day when started. I too will see what happens in the morning! If anyone's has got any ideas as to what the problem might be please post! |

Odd. If it were me, I'd disconnect the battery for half an hour to re-set the ECU, then make a good quick re-connection and see how it goes. Sometimes the ECU needs to re-learn idle speed, it could have got confused for some reason.
