Car Up - Siren Fitted - SUCCESS, Alarm siren goes off when car is opened through a locked drivers door window... Error message cleared and gone for another 10 years hopefully!

I took the Opportunity to put the multi-meter on both before fitting.

The Sirens have 3 pins and if you test the middle pin against the outer pins, the Voltage read 6.9V New...

I had replaced the original Battery on the Original Siren - and it read 0V, so despite the Board looking good it was Kaput... not sure if it can be tested further or recovered... will keep until I hear for those that know...

Pics attached... of new / old and Voltages..

That though seems to be the way to test a Duff unit to me - which of course you could do without removing from the car - once the Inner Wing is removed to access connector.
great news with the siren . why do they need to supply a new cage with the siren they could reduce the price if it was sold as a siren only

mostly about the rears.. the final readings I got to are at the bottom of page 3

fronts - 15-16 deg?? I didn't even think you could go that far.. that can't be right you'd tell just by looking it was a serious problem (surely it must be 1.5 and 1.6)

re: rears, it's a weird setup, toe is adjustable and as far as I can tell (though I may be wrong) a side effect of altering the toe is a movement on the camber readout. although technically camber is not adjustable. so if they sort out the toe you might find camber corrects slightly

i think my error was mostly saggy shocks because after I replaced them the readings went back to normal. that or the guy is a bit hit and miss with the machine which I don't want to accuse him of because he was really complimentary of my car
Thanks Stuart - no idea re 14/16 deg - thats what they gave me... they said they couldn't do Camber.

I've ordered a couple of new 4C shocks to replace the two front, final big investment I think .... £450

Default Another Error, "Gear Selector Service" another job

The fight for an error free dash continues...

This time it was throwing a "Gear Selector Service Required" Error - which relates to the Geartronic shifter... suspect its because I stressed the cabling when getting the Radio in and out, didn't realize the Gear Silver Surround could be clipped off so was twisting it to get the Radio out... to diagnoze then fix the Parrot system (Bluetooth Phone Kit)

Anyhow, found one on Ebay - thanks Daz - who met me yesterday and handed over a good second hand unit.

So I set about switching it in this morning - nervously it has to be said - the thought of not being able to drive the car was on my mind...
First check - part number - slightly different, despite 100% same appearance.

Everything went to plan, Centre console fully out, cables off, gear levers pulled out and swopped over, selector unbolted and replacement bolted in... reverse the procedure, cleaning and hoovering 15 years of grime and crumbs .....

Switch on, test drive, error gone and Geartronic manual mode returned... Pheeew!

So down to one Error now - 4C Suspension Error - Struts en route...

So far and to then I've had to fix 6 Messages/Errors and that Yellow Triangle is still hanging on in there!

Transmission Performance Low - Gearbox replacement
Engine System Service Required - Not sure what this related too
Soot Filter Full - Went once back on the road
Park Assist - Bumper Off, all 4 replaced
Alarm Siren - replacement
Gear Selector - replacement

Onwards to the next... more soon.

Oh and one more thing - the Heater blower, which was suspect from the start - it worked with a good smack to the Dash since it was in for the box- well it finally gave up the ghost yesterday... so a New replacement £60 is on it's way... no error on this one, but no heater either which is pretty key to a comfy ride.

Default Bumper Paint by Bumper Rescue - Recommended Cheshire

So, while waiting for the shocks I decided to try and improve the appearance of the Car this week, especially the bumper which has clearly seen a couple of incidents, scratches and bumps, plus a previously poor respray in a non matching silver.

In addition I had to find a Tow Eye cover which was Black... it was kinda spoiling the rest of the mainly good paint, though far from perfect... also I have no confidence in touching up as my motor is a Special order "Inscription" tm option which cost circa £1,200 extra when new and does look great when it sparkles!

So I looked into options and found "Bumper Rescue"

Essentially, what a service - they quote via email, then come to the drive, prep and paint the car as well as match the Colour exactly using Electronic matching and a top class paint code system...

Pictures attached but for anyone in the North West with damage, scruffy bumpers or dents I would highly recommend them.. lovely chap called Sam did mine and I'm delighted with the result.

Website for Quotes here - https://bumperrescue.co.uk/

I am in no way associated with this company - this is merely a personal recommendation to help others.

Cheshire - North West based Holmes Chapel Location HQ I think...

Before and After pics here... see what you think...
Hope this helps someone.

Default So, the bloody Blower fan decided to pack in!

Well, another day another Volvo job, this time a pig of a job - replacing the Heater blower...

Since I got the car the blower fan was clearly on its last legs, needing a smack on the underside of the dash to get it going. Even the dealer that did the box was reluctant to do it and recommended keeping on smacking it... Now I know why...

Carpets off - glove box out, 5 T25 Torx screws - one of which rear most is really hard to get too... needed to cut the insulation and get a socket in... while upside down in the Passenger footwell..

The YouTube videos show you how its done - think I'd recommend replacing both Motor and Resistor at the same time... Fan was £50 ish, Resistor £20 ish... both were duff on mine and the motor when removed was hard to turn and knackered.

Took a struggle but sorted and now have heating and cooling and demisting again!

Onwards we go... next job booked in with dealer is to fit two front 4C struts to rid it of the final error on the dash - for now... My bin is starting to look like a breakers yard...

Enjoyable though and car getting better ever week.

Default Question/Puzzle - Pollen Filter Drain going nowhere?

So, another day another puzzle...

While fitting the Blower motor I needed to remove the Polen filter cover - which nudged me to change the filter...

Well one of the Drain plugs doesn't have a pipe, the one from the Pollen Filter Cover?

Am I right in presuming this should drain away any water?

If so, I noticed during the storms the other week that the footwell got wet - I'm presuming now that water gets down through this onto the carpet but I've only got one drain pipe -and that's connected to the Blower motor?

Any ideas? See pics for more

The pollen filter cover doesn't have a drain pipe that attaches to it, I'm not sure why that connector is there, but it doesn't go anywhere, the back of the tube is solid, so no water could ever drain out.

The three most likely causes of wet carpets in the passenger footwell are a leaking sunroof drain (if applicable) a faulty door seal (front or back) or possibly a leaking door membrane.

Of course the other, less appealing option, if that's possible, is a leaking heater matrix, but you would have noticed coolant loss with that one.
