Default '06 Ocean Race / Engine Fan & Park Assist Questions

Hello Everyone,

I've taken ownership of a '06 XC90 Ocean Race edition. It's got 148,000 miles on the clock, with the timing belt changed at 137,000. I'm hoping I'll be able to get 3-4 years from it.

It was a CATD write-off and the only noticeable damage is a number of scratches/dents across multiple side panels - not enough for someone to notice on a drive by.

The dealer who sold it, insists that they could find nothing wrong with the engine and that despite it having been listed as 'Flood Damaged', could find no water in the engine compartment, or signs of leakage into the passenger compartments. They fully serviced the car before sale. I've a full complete service history.

Two things have me concerned:

A periodic 'Park Assist Service Required' error has appeared - however, it's not consistent and Park Assist operates without any issues. I suspect this could be a wire loose in a sensor, or possibly dirt covering a sensor.

While driving in 20°C heat this morning, I pulled up in a parking space and the engine radiator fan continued to blow (loudly). When I reinserted the car key and switched it to the III position, the fan ceased. Is this the normal cooling process?

Has anyone got any of experience dealing with these issues?

Regards,

Glenn

Regarding ParkAssist:

Ensure all sensors are clean and that no dirt is in the groove around them, use a toothpick to get any debris out
Test them on clear level ground. I've had mine go off constantly due to high kerbstones and rain. Came right in the same location when it was dry.

Ensure ParkAssist control unit (in rear of vehicle, left hand side, in cavity under the taillights, easily accessible) is clean and dry, unplug and check the connectors. Clean off any signs of dirt and corrosion. Control unit might be stuck on with double sided tape

If problem prevails, remove bumper and unplug each sensor in turn: check each connector is clean and dry and shows no sign of corrosion

If problem still prevails, consider getting VIDA so you can determine exactly where the problem lies (which sensor and why)

As for cooling fans, they have a run on timer which runs for a few minutes after the engine is turned off (and also after you have closed and locked car) to ensure coolant is cooled. Monitor it next time, if it runs longer than say 15min then there may be a problem, but likely not.
