Default Ignition key sticky

Hi folks, I have a problem with the ignition barrel on my 2003 V70. I went to turn the key in the ignition and it would not go past position 3. I took the key out and gave the barrel a squirt of WD40 and the key will now start the car but it is now very stiff and I have to make sure the I turn it back slightly so that the starter is not continually engaged. Has anyone else had the same problems and if so how did you get arround it?

Use the search facility on here - this problem is quite common and well documented.......

Wd40 is not a good idea in any type of lock.

Get some proper graphite powder , put a drop on the key and insert into lock, repeat a few times and all should be fine.

I would get a new barrel ordered to key number before yours fails totally as it can take dealers 3 days to get them,

Plus the recovery fee when yours fails totally and leaves you stuck,

Do a search on this. There is a thread on the V70 and a long thread on the XC90 section on 'ignition switch won't turn past position I.

If you loosen the steel rectangle on the bottom of the pot metal case of the ignition lock housing, you might free up the lock. If you want more information, reply.
