T5 engine revs run on----WHY?
My T5 850 1994, is 'running on'. Whats happening is that the revs are not dropping straight away when i take my foot off the acceleration.
When i change gears, in between gears when i press the clutch, the revs rise slightly then drop slowly making gear chAnging feel weird and frustrating, and am concerned why its happening........ ANY IDEAS??? |

Have you checked for either sticking throttle cable, or if electronic throttle, sticking actuating mechanism for the throttle potentiometer. It might be the Engine Control Unit developing a fault or it's plug coming adrift as alternatives.
All the best, Peter. |

RE: T5 engine revs run on----WHY?
Mine does this to and is very common, some ECU's have a built in 'rev-hold' that makes the gearchange smoother and puts less stress on transmission.
As an aside the V6 Mondeo also does this and is usually only noticeable during slow gearchanges. |

This tends to be a "feature"
You may be able to make it a bit better by cleaning the throttle body and the idle air value. Do a search on 850 forum for method. Regards. |

I'm going to clean up the thottle body next week, I've heard you should always get a new gasket if you're doing this yeah?
