2004 S60 D5 fuel door problem
Hi,
I have a couple of issues with my fuel door on my s60 First off when filling up today, I seem to have snapped something in the hinge, so now it opens with ease and doesnt "pop" shut. In other words the resistance that would close it and keep it from blowing open is no longer there Having trawled the net and forums, seem to have come to the conclusion I need a new plastic hinge. Is this right? Second thing I noticed is that it no longer seems to lock! Not sure how long this has been going on, but it definitely used to, as remember frequently locking the car at petrol station without realising it locks the fuel door so needing to unlock car again. There was no delay on mine, used to lock as soon as central locking was activated So my next question is, what can I do to sort this out? I have read some forums regarding similar issues with peoples V70, is this the same unit as in the S60? Thanks |

You undoubtedly need a new plastic hinge. This part failed on my 2004 V70 several years ago.
If the hinge is broken, then the door may not close correctly so the loop is not captured when the fuel door lock activates. In UK models the fuel door lock activates with a 10 minute delay after central locking.

I have read about the 10 min delay on the locking mechanism, but mine never did as at least 3 times got out the car to fill up, locked it, then went to open the flap and it sealed up resulting in having to unlock car again This didnt take 10 mins, so can only think that this got changed by a previous owner. The flap looks to be seated well enough, not got any gaps or anything so not sure if it is just not getting caught by mechanism or if it isnt working at all! If I was to leave it open then lock the car, would the pin that locks it still pop out or does it need the clip thing to go into the hole before it will attempt a lock? |

How to replace fuel filler flap
Try this for a pictorial guide - S80 and S60 flaps are the same

Cheers for the link!
I had already seen that and bookmarked it for when I get the part! Its the locking that is puzzling me more than anything, as I would like to get that fixed asap. Is the locking unit located same place as V70, behind the panelling in the boot? |

This is where it is for an S80 so I would assume it would be pretty standard.

Ok,
Just wanted to update the thread to put an end to it Got a new hinge and that sorted that issue out As for the locking mechanism for the fuel door, well I pulled the unit out to have a look and found that the gear inside that is used to push/pull the locking bar has broken teeth! So looks like a new unit is in order, well at least a scavenge at the local breakers to see if i can get a new cog! |
