Exclamation Error Codes

Good evening people of VOC,

I wonder if anyone can shed light on a little problem I’m experiencing with my 59’ XC90?

Two error codes on the ECU dash display; 167 and 042. It’s the latter that seems to be causing me the most trouble.

I took my 2.4D to a local (to me) garage as the amber idiot light keeps coming on. It does go out after about 6 ignitions. The scenario is: in this cold weather, below 10 degrees, when I accelerate in low revs, under 1800rom, the car momentarily goes into limp mode, the amber idiot light illuminates and the message ’engine system service required’. Garage said it was the mass airflow meter sensor so after a painful £200 purchase, I tested the car at low revs. Surprise, surprise, the problem persisted.

I’ve tried googling the error codes which is also where I found this fabulous site, but there is nothing specific just generic “could be this” “could be that”

Anyone got the Volvo knowledge and fancy a stab at online diagnostics?

Many thanks for your time and attentions.

Peter

No more expensive guess work. That message can be for a multitude of reasons.

It needs to go on Vida and have the codes read properly.

Dealer OR ask on here if anyone local to you has the equipment to help you out.

Many of us on here have and it will quickly and accurately tell you where to look.
