Default Transponder keys bit wirking

I locked my car as normal this morning, (05 V70) The just I went to get it and the remote key fob isn’t working, neither is the spare. It seems strange that both batteries would be down, obviously I’ve swapped them from key to key and made no difference, it physically unlocks and starts. I’ll get some batteries and try them, but otherwise, does anyone have any ideas?

Interference? Have you moved the car to a different location and tried them?

Buy an RF meter from Amazon, about £8 , it will show if the key is transmitting, I used some switch cleaner after using one and now works OK .

Hi, I did have this problem in a different house, it turned out to be the wireless doorbell. There’s no interference like that where I am now. If I hold the key over the red light light on the dash it works, so I suspect the new batteries I’ve bought from the corner shop are old, I’ll get some more tomorrow from the the local dealer and go from there.

Thank you, I’ll give it a go if I need to.

The remote part of the key talks to the module built into the rear view mirror.
This unlocks/locks the doors.

The blade part of the key fob has a small chip, which is read by the coil around the ignition barrell. That allows the car to start.

You can get a new rearview mirror and key fob parts from another car and it works!

The new batteries from the dealer sorted it, so the other new ones I bought from the corner shop must’ve gone by their sell by date, thanks for your replies.
