75% done but left driver seat.

There is a 2 pin plug (black) which does the heated seat and a 4pin plug which I assume does the electrickery for the seats. Problem is, the existing plug has only 2 slots in, not 4. I think I need to get the wiring plug from an electric seat car and then graft some. Wiring to the back of fuse 7.

Cheers,

Fred
Hi Fred, does this help? Need a live feed from fuse 7 and ground black wire to handbrake switch.

Did you find any taped up wiring pre-wired?

James.

Morning James,

There is an existing 4 pin plug there but it has only 2 pins in, not 4.

Could that be all I need?

Now with more pictures. For reference the car is an M reg (1995) 940 estate. It has/had full cloth/velour interior, heated seat swithces that didnt illuminate or work and entirely manual adjustment both sides. The incoming seats are from another 940 and are dark grey with manual passenger side adjustment and electric driver adjustment:

Beneath the passenger seat is a 2 pin connector for the heated seats. it looks like this:

The heated seats didnt work previously. The light now comes on but I am really stumped as there seems to be nothing to connect the 4 pin plug beneath it to. Does it perhaps need a relay/thermostat box? Only 2 of the pins are present in the 4 pin plug...

I think this is the sort of relay it needs? There is one beneath the new leathery driver seat.

Light on pass side seat heater switch now works where previous seat didn't. Havent left on long enough to test for heat. Doubt I'll get any with an unconnected plug unless it is for something else.

Outgoing driver seat had this arrangement of plugs (assume 2 pin is heater and 3 pin is???:

Incoming seat has this arrangement:

In short, to finish the job I reckon I need:

1)Green relay box for beneath pass seat to get the heater working. At present there is a 4 pin connector just dangling beneath the seat.
2) The 4 pin wiring plug from an electric seated car so that I can run off of the back of fuse 7 into the existing male 4 pin plug on the inconing leather seat.

Happy to be set straight on any of my guesses.

F

PS to treat and condition the leather, I used this Simoniz conditioner from amazon. £7 a bottle, soaks in well. Leaving them in the sun seems to make the seats 'thirstier' and therefore softer once done. I just did either conditioner or buffing every 30 mins for most of the day, didnt use an entire bottle and now have buttery soft seats. Also did bike leathers at same time. To remove any light soiling and really work it in, I used a cheap paint brush. To buff off I just used a lint free cloth.

Just so you're aware, many of the 7/9xx heated seats have a thermal cut-out so if the ambient temperature around the seat is 10C or higher, the seat heaters don't work.

Do any of the new seat wiring colours match the existing wiring colours?

Did your old seats that you have removed have a relay underneath?

Is it just the drivers electric seat that has a relay?

Your passenger seat 4 pin plug with just 2 wires what are its wiring colours? Suspect black ground and red live to fuse 7. If your old seat doesn't have a relay then your new seat probably doesn't require one. The 2 prong plug which suspect is heater does it match the new 2 pin seat wiring colours?

Good point and one i should have asked, they should match up and if so, will make connection easier.

Probably not or if they did, a different one. The ones for leather seats have a built-in 'stat (apparently, don't see it myself) to prevent the leather "cooking".

Is it just the drivers electric seat that has a relay?

The passenger seat should have a green, leather heated seat relay as well for the reason above.

Some good points there James and hopefully you asking and me answering will help Fred at least somewhat!

The old cloth driver's seat is still in there as I would still like to be able to drive it until I know exactly how to execute the seat change.

I was unable to feel a green relay up underneath the seat. I therefore think it is only the electric seat that has the relay.

Cloth driver's side seat (still connected and in car) connector plugs are as follows:

2 pin connector - T1 red at seat end, black and white stripe at car end. T2 black at seat end and black at car end.

4 Pin connector - T3 green both seat and car end, T4 black both seat and car end.

---------------------------------------------------------------------

Incoming leather driver's side seat plugs are as follows:

2 pin connector - T1 black and white stripe, T2 Black.

4 pin connector - T1 Black and red stripes, T2 Plain orange, T3 black and blue stripes, T4 Plain white.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Passenger side 4 pin connector with nothing attached (the one I suspect needs a relay) - T1 Black, T2 empty, T3 Red, T4 black and white stripes.

4 pin connector on relay on new (to me) leather driver seat - T1 black, T2, empty, T3 Red, T4 black and white stripes. This is a perfect match with the dangly connector beneath the pass seat. Relay needed I think but just seems mysterious that it has begun working even if the circuit isnt complete.

Thanks for engaging and helping. Hopeful that the photos assist others at this stage.

I'm lost. Car wiring is not my thing. The black wire with white stripe is live on first connector and black only is earth.

Orange and yellow not at all sure.

Does the green wire connect to any other colour except green?

Probably a case of going to see Volvo and see if they can print off a wiring diagram.

EDIT looked at my car a 1996 940 with heated seats. Both seats have the green relay. My drivers seat also has an unused grey connector against the drivers door side seat rail at the front. See pic.

James.
