Hi,
After a brief foray into 'modern' cars, I've decided to buy another Volvo - a 240, preferably a 2.3 auto. Are there any particular troublespots in these cars? Where are the rust traps? Any other advice would be gratefully received! Thanks for your help :) Sam 90 944 2.3 auto 91 964 3.0 auto 91 944 2.0T auto 92 965 3.0 auto |

![]() If you go for a 1991 -1993 version you should be able to have a well sorted, decent 200, for around £1000 or so. All the best, Peter |

Ran 2.3GL manual for 200,000 from new. Loved it!
Needed new steering rack at 150,000 and gearbox re-build at around 180,000 plus usual quota of disks, pads etc. Bad rust in driver footwell and footwell behind driver - suspect leaking from bottom corner of windscreen from an early stage; also bad rust (but not visible from oustide) at back of rear storage compartment below tailgate. Thanks Ray,
I've been looking for 2 weeks now and haven't come across a good 240 2.3 auto estate (wagon). Lots of 2 litre cars around but I'm not sure that those engines are as tough as the 2.3s. Thanks for the warning about the rust! All the best, Sam |

Also watch for rust/deteriation on the front spring support dishes. I have had one of these give up on me but fortunately at low speed. Replacements were quick to have fitted.

"Lots of 2 litre cars around but I'm not sure that those engines are as tough as the 2.3s." The two litre engines are virtually identical to the 2.3s but with a slightly smaller bore. The B200E (The K Jet injection one) is more powerful than some of the later B230s but has less torque and has to be revved a bit more to get the same acceleration. Definitely not the engine to couple to an auto box (yuk) but fine with the 5 speed manual. Colin. |

Thanks Colin - I never realised that! Thought it was a completely different block.
Thanks also Migrator - I'll bear that in mind. Sam |
