Whine at 30-40 mph?
I have a whine at 30-40 mph- no wife present!
I’ve searched & noted this could be a number of things: Worn tyres Low gearbox oil (getting a full check/ change tomorrow) Worn wheel bearings old. OE ones letting in rain/dirt? Now how do I know which wheel bearing it is apart from the usual jack it up and wobble the wheel? Any tips welcome! Cheers- loving the car so far, just need to sort a few niggles that’s all! |

Unlikely to be wheel bearings. When they fail they just make noise at all speeds.
If your gearbox oil is low it wont work at all! Could be a bearing in the tranmission train somewhere. Most likely to be tyres. Some brands will produce noise at various speeds.

I’ll be honest, the tyres are all Mis-matched old crappy ones by the look of them, I got the car as a cheap p/x so I knew it’d need a few quid spending on it.

If the tyres are like that then you might find a new set transforms the car.
As has been said, if it were a wheel bearing the noise would get worse with speed. Does the noise change if you swerve the car left or right? These cars are like a new girlfriend, you need to have been with them a few months before you understand all the noises they make and how they are showing their age....

Good choice. I've found the Wranglers to be excellent and quiet too.
