Default Engine Mapping.

I was wondering what the general consensus is regarding having a 2012 C-30 normally aspirated petrol mapped.

I am in Northern Ireland and specialists Torque Tronix said they would advise the engine be left alone because you might only see a 7 percent increase.

That wouldn't be notable nor much use, it could do with a bit of boosting as you wouldn't think it had the performance of a 2.0 litre petrol.

Just has turned only 59 thousand miles and serviced only three weeks ago before it was scheduled and flew through the annual test soon after that.

What's your thoughts please on the engine boosting options or ideas?

Thank you kindly in advance.

Generally unless you have a turbo, you're not going to see much benefit from a remap sadly, it was nice of them to tell you not to bother as most I expect would just take your money and let you enjoy your <10bhp increase.

Your best bet if you want more power is a good service/filter replacement all round or get rid and buy something a bit quicker.

sounds odd
Use gen volvo parts for the service, plugs/filters etc
a Decent brand oil rather than "cheapest no name"
fuel it with 98ron
new plugs every year rather than volvo's xxK miles
ditto the oil/oil filter/air filter

after checking the coil packs/ associated wires to/from those

airbox , seal the swan neck and associated bits , its all held with clips and can rattle etc,

wear boots when driving other than that (ie Hoof it) as in short there really isnt much worth doing to the n/a engines

as FM says , if you want more umph , buy one with a bigger engine ,
the turbo 2.5 is about the only one worth "mapping"

cant really do much to that. Its like joining the 100m sprint with your legs tied together ... no matter what you do .... you arent really going improve much.

Probably the only gains you could look for are in the areas of airflow, increasing the air intake, performance exhaust could be your first area as this could get you a few more good gains in bhp. If you are looking for a lot more bhp unfortunetly I would probably change to a turbo car ... be it diesel or petrol .... both maps on those will make a massive difference.

Thanks for your replies so far, the car has been fully serviced and all the proper oil and filters replaced - there's a full service book stamped history on it.

Have the 2.0 litre Petrol models a name of been a bit lazy as such? Or is the non turbo the key issue here?

I am currently looking at a 2016 V-40 D-2 Cross Country 2.0 diesel LUX pack.

So who knows, I don't really want to part with the C-30 at the same time.

It’s a ford motor, Duratec I think. If you chuck a lot of money at it, 200bhp could be achieved, but for that you’re talking major mods to the engine...all of which is readily available.

The flip side is, you have a good solid motor to begin with, maybe just get a custom exhaust, change the air filter, and just enjoy your C30.

Thanks Marc, good advice that.

Where would you source that exhaust and filter?

Exhaust would be a custom job, although the only one that springs to mind is LongLife, I'm sure there are others out there.

Filter wise, you can go for a cone filter, generally there are universal ones or you may be able to get a replacement panel filter. Have a look at Pumaspeed, they do lots for Ford and the Duratec lump.

2.0l comes with a cone filter (mine does at least) - I've put in a K&N filter, no performance difference IMHO, just done it for maintenance reasons.

There are millions of C30 T5's knocking around on autotrader... why not sell your car and buy a T5? Your C30 will be worth a fair bit given the age and mileage.

The 2.0 isn't even slow tbh.. it's a nice balance of power and economy, whereas a T5 will make you homeless if you drive it hard enough.
