Rattle noise
Volvo V70 MK3 (2008 plate) D2.0. I have bought the car a few months ago. The millage is 104k.
Yesterday I've heard a low rumbling sound when decelerating / engine braking, that lasted just for a few seconds. Rather low pitched and non-metalic sound (as heard inside the car). Today when only half a mile from home the same rattle could be heard. Then when parked heard a strange noise when switching the engine off. Switched on to check again, and
Noise recording: https://youtu.be/9gUys4O1BwQ On the video, a clutch pedal is pushed in and released every ~5s. I wonder whether I should avoid driving at all cost, or can still commute to work later this week... Just one week after MOT test and on the way from the garage after booking trailing arms bushes for next Monday... which are another story... Any help much appreciated. Could be the DMF wearing out I suppose. Has it had a new clutch or are you on the original?

I expect it's original. Is failing DMF drivable or major failure and being stuck on the roadside very likely?
Thanks for taking your time. |

If noise goes off when pressing clutch pedal, could be thrust bearing on gearbox

I have same car same year.... Bought mine August 17 and had the same noise. Mine was 145k. Clutch started to slip in higher gears so replaced the lot. Worker out about £400 using quality parts and 6 hours of my time in the rain 😯

Tough man, awesome job!
Update. Interesting. I took my dog for a walk today and noticed that now there is more like ticking rattling noise but when pedal pressed in, and rather quiet when up. After walking the dog, came down, restarted engine and now noise pattern was as yesterday - rather quiet when pushed in, but grinding 'white noise' when up. Thank you all for help. DMF + Clutch change required. I will update the post for future reference. |

Hi
Any improvements on your end? I have developed the same issue, rattling on park and sometimes on neutral (even for a few minutes when the engine is turned off) But on drive and reverese there noise disappears. At times its hard to shift from park. I drive a 2007 V70 2.4 170hp automatic |

A worn or broken clutch pressure plate can give rise to these noises . The fact that it alters when you depress the clutch points to it. I would budget for a new clutch and DMF, not forgetting a new slave cylinder
Noises associated with a high milage auto then think torque converter !
