Exclamation Help please! Ignition barrel won’t turn past 2 clicks

Hi all,
I have a 2003 Volvo V40 Sport and the ignition barrel will go around to click #2 (electrics on) but won’t turn to the third click to ignite the engine. I am able to jump start it and managed to get it to a garage where it has been sat for coming up to 3 weeks! It’s been a bit of a shambles really and I’m no further forward. I was told it was the steering lock and the parts were not available - I have advised that it’s not the steering lock as I drove the car to the garage. It seems to be something physically wrong with the ignition barrel. I’m not sick of waiting on genie “locksmith” to come back.
I googled it and it seems to be a fairly common issue. The problem I have is that this is an old car with parts not readily available. It’s not got to the point where I want to scrap it over this though - it’s been great for us for the last 3 years.
Does anybody have any ideas / suggestions please?
I did wonder if it was possibly to fit a start / stop switch with the key being able to fire up the electrics…
Any help appreciated.
Thanks.

Now how you permanently fix this without a new cylinder and two new coded keys - that Is the question. you might be able to replace a pin in the cylinder from what I'm hearing - still looking. Good luck!

iv seen abt 4 of these faults on v70 s a small part breaks within the barrel . to fix you need to remove the broken piece to allow the key to turn
