Default Oil Service Required

I've recently had my 2015 S80 D4 serviced, the reminder to book regular service was switched off however there is no a message that Oil Service is Required, is possible that the computer is confused or does it mean that oil and filter were not changed?

Service should have been oil and filters. Have you checked the oil level. Any problems go back to where it was serviced.

Thanks for your reply Peter. With no dipstick can't look at the oil, I will be going back to the garage which carried out service but would be interested to know if any possibilities other than oil and filter were not changed

you have had it serviced , the service reminder message has been reset , yet you say there is a message saying Oil service is required ?? what is the level on the oil level gauge? the message is for oil quality rather than quantity however . They forgot to reset the oil gauge , was it a volvo dealer ?

If you put the car in key position 2 without starting (press start button twice) and scroll through the menu you should be able to check the oil level. It's electronic level now on the dash.

Agree with peter86 above.
Would add that what you OP describe is same as I had 2 years ago - straight after a service I had the same warning. Went back to garage with oil everywhere as oil had been overfilled by a raving idiot, Oil level adjusted. Same message returned so back to garage who diagnosed the Air Temperature Sensor Valve was finished and was replaced at £300+. 3 days later same message returned so back to garage. They cleaned up more oil leakage. a couple of days later the alternator failed and had to be replaced which they did without asking me. I refused to pay the bill and took the car away and never returned but went to Volvo workshop. They diagnosed a sensor had failed and replace it (and another similar sensor as a precaution). Total cost about £200. Car was back to its old beautiful self.
Take care as these cars do not like idiots.

May be caused by by an interupted regeneration of the DPF. Extra diesel is used to raise the temperature in the dpf, but is dumped into the cylinders if you shut down the car during regeneration. This causes the oil level to rise and it polutes the oil with diesel. Had the same experience.

Can anyone confirm that by 2015 Volvo had rewritten the software to stop the diesel fuel dilution of the engine oil problem? And if they did, upgrades to the software of earlier cars, which is done automatically by main dealers during servicing, will also cure the fault on on earlier cars? I think they also redefined what was a "full" sump for the oil to allow for any dilution but they didn't change out the dip stick if the car had one so the oil should only be filled to 75% or was that an interim step on the way to fully solving the problem? Can anyone who knows for sure about this, post to educate us all.

My 2009 D5 is serviced at the dealers, 5.7/9 litres of oil go into it as far as I can tell as I supply 2 4 litre jacks of castrol edge 0-30 and there is just over 2 litres in the returned jack, and the dash gauge shows 100%. The manual dipstick ( full sized police spec in my case) shows 75%..

Hope that helpful.

Paul.

So are we saying that they actually haven't stopped the regen dumping fuel into the sump but have doctored the electronic fill levels and warnings to reclassify 75% as 100% and by so doing allow 25% of the sump to contain dumped fuel before the warning occurs? If so, how healthy is it for an engine running with its lubricating oil diluted by up to 33% diesel fuel? This situation would occur before any warnings were displayed!
