I should add that our 2yr old XC90 has been in the dealer for the last 2 weeks with warranty issues around gaskets, comms modules, steering wheel issues, powerpulse hose issues, and other stuff. So we were without the XC90 for 2 weeks and the S60 was not driveable.

Clearly a bit frustrated having 2 x new Volvo's off the road!! We got the XC90 back yesterday, but it's not a great situation. Hopefully Volvo UK take some interest, although I don't hold out hope......

I think it's shocking customer service, snatching the hire car back before establishing the exact cause, it's a case of being guilty until proven innocent.

Exactly what I said to my wife tonight. No offer of investigation - just a "this won't be covered under warranty so the hire car will be cancelled". OK....so.....errr....

My Ha'porth.
It is an earthing stud. It was fitted at Body In White. It was then sprayed during Paint.
Now, to fit anything to it, the nut has to be removed, shock horror, this will damage the paint on the nut!
What the white component is I have no idea but the car is 8 weeks old so unless you or one of the 3 dealers fitted it, then it was fitted during assembly so the only one "tampering" with the nut is Volvo.
I suspect that an over zealous mechanic, new to model , has highlighted the "tampering" and management has latched on to that to void the warranty.
Stand your ground!!
All IMO of course.

Where is this? If there is a similar one on my V90 I’ll see what it looks like.

Fact is it could already have had work done done after the assembly line if there was a problem.

Morning Soupy, I think 'They' are completely out of order, if those cables under the bolt are Volvo parts and not connected with an aftermarket fitment how did they get under the bolt????? I do find it rather strange the Pre. delivery inspection was done at a dealership that Did Not sell you the car.are they, (all three), in the same group? I suggest you may get the phones ringing on your behalf, by contacting the CEO at Volvo UK. Try... www. ceoemail.com you should be able to get the phone number and email address. if this still works.

Kind regards and good luck,Keith.

I've wondered this since when I first looked at the Service book. It has the PDI done by one dealer, and no registration number written in the book. The car was supplied to me by another unconnected franchise. The car is currently also with an unconnected franchise. All 3 are separate franchises.

However, the car is under contract lease. I assume the car may have been "transferred" between franchises before sale perhaps? No idea....

Anyway, I've given Volvo Customer Care the names of all 3 dealers yesterday by phone, and they are going to speak to all 3 dealers to try and determine what is going on.

I don't really know for sure. I think it might be under the passenger footwell carpet but not sure. Please don't rip your car apart on my behalf!!!

The earth bolt and nut have to be fitted before painting and then the nut is removed to fit the factory fit earth leads, if the nut and bolt were not in when the body was painted the paint would prevent contact with body to make the earth, the leads are all fitted after painting or the would all be painted body colour. It is the way the factory build them. The dealer is ignorant and lacking in knowledge and common sense.
Unless he understands that and is saying he believes you have fitted something else as well after delivery to the earth point and then removed it before you took it in to be checked. But he has no proof of that.

Agreed - that's how I see it. Dealer not replied to my email yet. I asked for them to take a photo of it on another S60 on their forecourt.
