The Volvo logic must go - thrifty people will want useful information on their screen, and those who upgrade to higher specs will take whatsoever we give them.

So if they've completed their investigations does that mean the 'old' fix you mention is the final solution? Or maybe it's a variation of the previous fix?
well from what you say it seems they are doing this "recall" the government website now advises you to take the car to the dealer where as it did not say that at first .. Have you any idea of the recall number ? something similar to the format of " R 54667 " ?

whether you have a gauge or not , the coolant temperature is being monitored continuously when you are driving , you will soon get a flashing light and message pop up if it deviates from the Normal , its a lot more observant than you are 😺

Ah yes, it's the 8" display, I forgot about those. Lucky you, to have a (coolant) temperature gauge!
It certainly is a temperature gauge, I perfectly understood what you meant, so you didn't misspoke

Can you tell more about it, how much and/or fast is the temperature allowed to deviate before
an alarm is raised.

Thanks for all the feedback.

The car has the 12" driver's display so doesn't have a temperature gauge.

The recall number is R29945. Clan, what's in these EGR cooling hoses? Is it air, water or some other fluid?

If indeed this is the same fix that was being offered 3 or 4 years ago it begs the question as why my and many other more recent cars weren't fitted with the amended hoses when the car was manufactured.

Anyway, I'm just back from the dealer where I asked them to check the smell. They had a quick look and acknowledged the problem but said that they'd need the car booked in to investigate it properly. However, they were adamant that it has nothing to do with the EGR fix. I questioned how they could be so sure there was no connection given that they only had a brief look and it was quite a coincidence that the car went in without the smell and came out with it. It felt like a pre-emptive "not our fault" statement. Of course, I realise it could just be a coincidence.

This issue got me thinking about the problems I've had with this, my first, Volvo. I reckon it's been with the dealer for more days in total than all my previous cars combined over the last 25+ years.

No you are correct, its just that most of us do not have a temperature gauge, the 12" drivers display does not have one, I was not aware you had a 9" drivers display, I thought they were all 12" now.
For the life of me I do not understand why they do not fit a temperature gauge on the 12" display, I tow a caravan and would prefer to have one.

A spot of feedback on the inlet manifold recall: my car shows up as an outstanding recall on the DVLA website and suggests I contact a dealer. I asked Volvo's advice line if I should contact a dealer now or wait for the "second letter" from Volvo (the first letter had a R29939 reference). He said I should wait for the letter, that they were being sent out now (as we all know) but that the longer I wait, the less likely it is that a dealer visit will be required. So either there was a batch of dodgy parts/procedures used in manufacture or the problem has somehow been addressed in the course of other repair/service work? Clearly the problem does not affect all 4 pot diesels made between 2014 and 2019.

Unlike some unfortunate members, my car has not needed an unscheduled dealer visit since I bought it in March 2018. I await my letter with interest!

Just like me. I never received any letter, any contact by phone or email or whatever.
