Had my first service yesterday and software updated so I have the new stop/start symbol and connected safety jiggery pokery.

Apparently my dealer tells me he starts his car with fingerprint recognition I can't find that on my app is it my20 kit?

Also noticed the note from the exhaust appears a lot more raspy it makes a decent note under acceleration just wondering if anyone else noticed the change in note or perhaps I'm just a lunatic ?

Assuming he's referring to remote start, I can start my MY17 car with either fingerprint (Android and iOS) or facial (iOS) recognition depending upon which phone I'm using. Obviously your phone has to support one of these recognition systems for it to work with the app.

The home screen says ‘Remote Start - Not running’

Press that and on IOS it asks for your fingerprint to authticate, and it starts over the air.

You can also link your Volvo on call account to Alexa, you can then ask her to start your car, open it etc. Useful if it’s a cold morning but it’s a little gimmick really.

Can Alexa actually remote start the car?

Google assistant can only lock, check fuel level and start parking climate

Alexa is the same, parking climate on the non-hybrids does start the car but you cannot drive it. Until you unlock and then press the start button.

Oooh that's clever and also annoying as I don't really want Alexa but this is a good reason to get it. No doubt Alexa will be in the car soon too so even more compelling to waste some money

But would you have control of who and when your car is remotely started with Alexa, would anyone be able to say Alexa start my car, kids messing about etc. What security does it have.
I have a remote start widget on my phone, no need to open VOC a few presses and car is started and only I have control of it.

The app (or maybe it's the OS) will ask if you want to use fingerprint/facial recognition whenever you select a function that requires authentication. You may have to enable said recognition function within the phone's OS.

Out with some friends the other night, I started the car using my watch. Obviously, being mates, they took the p!ss but as I'm from the Stingray/Fireball XL5/Thunderbirds generation it still amuses (and amazes) me.
