CVs done..
Driplinks done..
Shocks with sleeves and so on done.. (Upper mountings next year, unfortunately)
Ball joints done..

Let's tighten it all as it should be and give brakes a go..

Observation:

Brakes are spongy.

But only if I move faster than 5mph.

If stood still, they're hard as rock.

Got bad feeling. Will be researching.

I'm a genius mechanic...

My genius is so great that I fitted these wire springs on brake calipers wrong way round..

Now its sorted.

And I've got to scrub my hands again...

And yet my first thought was along the lines of high explosives in anctarctic region..

that is - blown seal..

now i can collapse and hope that tomorrow that indie will tighten the nut on the steering rod end/ball joint..

would you believe- i do have 18 mm socket, but not spanner.. and that thing needs spanner and 8mm counterhold..

Not necessarily.
A firm grip on channel lock or ordinary pliers or a set of molegrips can work just as well.

Well.. Well.. Well...

I picked her up from wheel alignment

And

I.. Well.. I...

I .. Roll!

Its not the same car as 2 days ago!

Mission half complete, then..

Remaining on the list (in importance order)

Top strut mounts (I should have budgeted for those on this go), hopefully July(ish)
Rubber neck on tank (I just been quoted 6 hours@£96+VAT!!)
Humming bearing sonewhere- investigate
Rattly CAT
Rip in drivers seat (seam let go. It had right to do so, after so many miles)
Few scratches passenger side and also few specks of rust coming out trough paint just over front wheel, also passenger side)

But most urgent, time consuming, "need to do by Sunday"...

Deep clean and wax and leather restorer/feed, dusting, polishing, you name it...

They're coming!!(insert your own emoticon that makes you think of panic/fear/being worried for your belongings here)

What solved this creak?

Occurred nearly exclusively (or I didn't hear it due to other sounds) at minimal to zero speed, for example parking up.

Think of the steering wheel centered. Move it 10 o'clock then 2 o'clock then 10 again..
Each move of the wheel is accompanied by that creak. Not too loud, but can be heard inside.
Especially with windows closed.

If I was to keep moving the wheel either way past 10 or 2 o'clock, I'd have only that initial creak, then normal silent operation.

Obviously something's flexing.

Changed the wishbones (bushes were worn) and..

Creak is still with me..

Suspects?

I just tried to locate source by ear- friend of mine was wiggling the steering wheel, I was listening by the front wheels..

Nope.. Too much traffic on the road, too much noise.
I will try again later.

But for now.. Anyone?

Nothing yet

I had no time.

Top suspects are top spring seats and accompanying bearing plates.

I'm just in the middle of sourcing parts (finally!), and I was re-reading old threads for info.

Otherwise I wouldn't even notice your question- sorry for that.

Seems that the "good" or "right" spring seats will be:

CRP 30683637
REIN AVQ0129
And
30683637 from FCP Euro.

Big thank you to Peppermint for video (reason I came back to this thread).

Strange thing, though. As for now, I can only find these parts in shops on other side of Atlantic. Not that expensive (set of 2 below £100) and not tragic delivery time, so I may order from there, but I'll try to find something on "this side".

On the same go I will be trying to squeeze in headlight replacement (cracked glass). I have good one already.

Now.. what bearing plates to get..
