Default 2003 S40 1.8s manual- cambelt kit

Hi its that time now where my dearly beloved needs her cambelt changed, i have been told of a kit that comprises of belts, pump et etc can anyone recommend a kit, any pitfalls???

If it is the Volvo engine get a genuine kit from Volvo. The pumps rarely give any issues - I have had pumps last 370,000mls and still be good - so if yours is in good order, no roughness or leaks, I would leave well alone. Do change the belt, idler pulley and adjuster and also the auxiliary belt and adjuster. If you go aftermarket - Gates etc, only fit a genuine Volvo pump if that does need changing.

If the engine is the Mitsubishi GDi, I've no experience of those.

thank you for that!, while we are on the subject, what is the best cam locking tool, im not looking to spend a shed load on a kit but there are so many out there for other engines finding it hard to choose whats right and wrong...

my engine is the B4184S2

2003 S40 1.8I S

If just changing the belt any of the cheap tools will do - provided it is designed for your engine. If removing the sprocket you really do need the proper Volvo tool as the cheapo ones can bend - don't ask how I know😥

If using a locking tool you will need a new camshaft end cap - only one as the cam sensor fits on the other cam and can be replaced. The caps are only a couple of quid from Volvo.
