I have ordered the crank locking tool and a 3/4" breaker bar/socket and will try again when that arrives. |

Is it possible to remove the air pump (nearest the bulkhead) without disturbing the (oil?) pump to fit the locking pin ?

I used doing my own belts as my justification for getting one. The sums didn't quite add up to truly justify it but who cares?
It gets used lots, will last forever and there's nothing on a car or van it won't undo.

Just by way of justification:- to move the nut I need a 3/4" socket at £10, a 3/4" breaker bar £40, then the crank holding tool £35 (+ some scaffold pole). Total £85 for tools I will probably never use again (and if I can't get access with the extended breaker bar I've wasted the money anyway). Or I can get a lesser cordless impact driver with 450nm of torque for £140 which I can use on almost anything mechanical ???? Makes sense to me ....

I drew the line at buying a 300Nm torque wrench to do up the nut as they can't be bought for much less than £90 so I hired one for £15.

I baught a Beta 300Nm torque wrench, £150.
Worth it for me as used every year when servicing the caravan to tighten the hub nuts and lives in the Volvo the rest of the year in case I have to change a wheel. Paul. |
