I had this problem with my first car, I wanted to fit a servo to a 1978 fiesta, and my insurance company refused to continue the insurance if I did. Stupid as you say, you try to make your car safer and what happens.........

Ah but its a case if you stop faster and the guy behind can't .....!!!!. Standardisation is the name of the game. Standard cars at standard speeds with standard penalties for being naughty.(unless of course you are Mr.J.Archer!!) Its the old Whitworth nut and bolt theory. Standardisation. BORING. Cheers Nigel

The other point is the value and desirablility of the car to thieves.

Expensive after-market items are prime targets for stealers and strippers, so the car is a higher cost, higher risk item.
