The flips side is they're often back to backed - i.e. on the road 24 hours a day. So maybe 1 or 2 cold starts a week....

I owned an ex Tullialan police training traffic car, 850t5 manual, it had THE most expansive history I've ever seen with a car, several a4 binders full documenting every piece of servicing and every mile almost. Car was like new at 180k miles, absolute peach.

Fun Facts relating to MOT ...

New South Wales has an equivalent (we call it "pink slip" 'cos back when it was done on paper the report was printed on pink paper), and about 15-ish years ago they changed the rules so it was only needed when the car was 5+ years old (previously it had been for cars of any age).
This change made no difference to road safety.

Other states of Australia only require an inspection when the car changes hands.
There is no difference to injury or death rates due to mechanical failure or a lack of roadworthiness (eg. part of the cause of a crash being attributed to worn tyres) between the states which have a yearly check & those which don't.

Maybe MOT made a difference to road safety up until ... I dunno, the 80's I guess? But it doesn't now, everything just lasts longer & is more reliable these days.

true i think an MOT is only as good as how stringent the tester is as well, theyre not going to look for timing issues they just need to be safe on the road.

and you hear bad stories about shifty tests as well.

I have had an unmarked V70 D5 2011 from the West Mercia RPU. 131k on the clock then and came with two binders of history when purchased in 2017.

Ex colleague was also an Instructor at Tulliallan and he said the best patrol by far was the 850 T5. He loved the one he used there so much he bought it when it came up for auction.
