Default Tyre Pressures

There's been a lot of discussion on wheel sizes and makes of tyre, but nothing on tyre pressures, I've allways run my car at recommended pressures, but as you know Volvo give an economy (higher) tyre pressure to improve fuel economy. Running your car tyres at a higher pressure must wear the middle of the tyre prematurely or does it, and if so do the fuel savings outway the more frequent tyre change due to increased wear?

Running mine at ECO pressures at the moment. Have to say there is no visible rounding or bulging of the tyre round the middle of the tread - I don't think it wil significantly affect tyre wear even if it were left on this pressure continuously.

I tend to vary tyre pressures, I will run them at lower pressures for a few thousand miles next (now done 3000 on ECO) . So far, tyre tread is evenly wearing.

The ride is a bit hard on ECO settings, I will be interested to feel how the ride is when I reduce it to the usual light load pressures for a while.

Had ours nearly 9 mths and done just over 6000miles on eco setting and the wear seems to be even across the tyre . As to the ride well the car is just so comfy .

There is actually lots on tyre pressures in the tyre wear threads. Or as I just found out when I ran a search to find a link for you, there used to be. All the old posts from about 2007 seem to have been deleted. To do with the forum update? No wonder the same questions are being asked again. Can the old posts be reinstated?

No it does not cause uneven tyre wear on the same set of tyres over about 65,000 miles. On two seperate XC90's as the owner swapped them when he got a new xc90.
