Question 54k mile service

I'm about to take my xc90 se lux in for its 54k service. Anything in particular I ought to be aware of before I go. Particularly concerned about when the optimum time to change a timing belt might be. I've done around 57k but this will be at least 83k by the time the next scheduled service comes around after this one.

As a rule I've always changed mine at 40,000 miles or 4 years old. What ever comes first.

I believe volvo schedule it for around 97000 mls
I agree with you I would start to get nervous at around 60000 mls

8 years or 96,000 miles. Both belts. If you are in this catagory you need to change the idlers.....http://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showpo...64&postcount=4

If you're not in that catagory the idlers should last over 200,000 miles. The belts will outlast the idlers and it's the idlers that will cause the belt to fail from what I've seen published on the forum, but I would still stick to Volvo's schedule.

Thanks people. I'll keep an eye on things over the next couple of months as I get over to the 60k mark and above. This is a fantastic workhorse of a family car and I'd hate to be without that boot space or those extra seats and certainly don't want to go down the MPV route - I'd just look like a tired parent in one of those!!

yes stick with it its worth the extra running costs over an MPV once its gone I am sure you would miss it. best car for motorway cruising / better than MPV across the fields / snowmobile / bus / load carrier / safety cacoon for family / nice looker - why give it up to save a few quid ?

same 2 choices with any car
1] buy new and pay in higher depreciation
2] keep older car and pay higher maintenance costs
Personally I will keep mine till it drops.
