Confused again!
Once more I am back to being confused. Took it to a different MOT place today. They found more wrong with it than the last one. All advisories. It passed on the emissions. He said the 93 model doesnt have a Cat; even though mine has; so they shouldn't have done the emission test from there. If the emissions test was done from the Cat it still would have failed. Obviously meaning my Cat is no good. But going by previous posts it has been mentioned mine will have a Cat. So how can both people be right? And the last Mot place not pick up on this?

Easiest way to check if you have a Cat. is to look under the car. If after the exhaust manifold under the car there is a box (Cat. Converter) followed by a short cylindrical 'box' (first noise suppressor/muffler) then you have a Cat.
Whether you have one doesn't depend on the model year but engine type. |

My car does have a Cat. The MOT guy did say that all I done to resolve the emmisions problem was unnecessary as Cat testing doesnt come in the the MOT as its a 1993. Apparantly cars up to 1993 dont need to be tested at the Cat only 1994 onwards. Thanx again for all your help. Fingers crossed thats it.

Hello B20F,
I'm trying to find the engine type in my 440. The 6th and 7th digit are 16. This is not covered in your list and the 480 Club site with the VIN reader gets all my vehicle details right, but says "unknown" for engine. It's a 1.8L so i'm guessing it's a B18(something). Do you know any other ways I can find out? Thanks. |
