that rings a bell , yes the immobiliser must be unlocked for it to work .
If your 400 is later than about 1995 there is a different method of programming the remotes , your Volvo dealer shouldnt have charged you , it is their job as agents and "experts" to sort it , they would have to contact their tech help desk to get the method if they have lost their 400 manuals and bulletins , i would persue that ...

Hi
Agree with Clan, you shouldn't be charged for work that doesn't achieve anything - where else are you supposed to go for expert advice than Volvo main dealers, at least in theory. I am not at home at present but will be back at the weekend - I have the DVD with all the 400 series manuals etc on it (bought via the Club and very useful with the 480!). Would you like me to see what it says about reprogramming fobs? David |

Hi Steve
I'll have a look for you and see what I can find, although I fear that Clan's made a very good point about it.... Anyway, I'll let you know! David |

Bugger me!!! £140 robbing ******s. It's a 5 minute job and the proceedure is the same for all ODB1 400 series. You can also set certain perameters (I.E disable imobaliser) only beef being you need the code reader to work to do it.....
Try this... Disconnect battery. >2mins reconnect Ignition 0 blip imobaliser Ignition 2 Bridge the jumpers. read codes.... In that order. I'm guessing when you plug in the jumpers the LED is very faintly lit before you even press anything?? |

I don't have a keyfob, it's been lost, so there'll be no immobiliser blipping
I think the new key and fob were included in the £140, but still, pretty poor show. |

I see now , it is down to whoever bypassed the immobiliser .. they have not reconnected the vital wire for the diagnostic circuit .. maybe when the programming method is found you can get it all wired back to standard and working properly ..
