Default Towing with a new xc90

We should be picking up a Brand new XC90 Active with the D5 and geartronic box next Thursday, but should be going away with the caravan the following day. My problem is the volvo manual states that it should have 1000km on the clock before towing, if I were to tow with it before the 1000km would this be recorded somewhere on the system and bump back up at a later service?? We are getting it on the Motorbility scheme which covers all serviceing and rubber, road fund tax and insurance. We had to put down a 5K advance payment , but the mobility componant of my wifes disability living allowce covers the monthly payment(approx £200 per month).

i think you would be ok.cant see how it can show up in any data from the car.the xc90 is built to tow and i would have no hesitation in useing it.just keep her below mach 1.

Thats what I had hoped, the journey is only 55 miles each way and mostly flat. If I keep within the recomended rev range I really couldn't see it hurting anthing but didn't know what information is stored on the system.

So long as your well within the weight limits for the car & drive sensibly, I am sure there will be no problem.

My XC60 had about 600m on the clock the first time I towed with it & the car is so capable I hardly knoew the caravan was there. Done probably 3000m toting since then with no problems at all.

The caravan is a Elddis Avante 626 twin axle 1680 kg max weight, so well within the recommended weights.

I`m sorry to be the bearer of bad news but personally I think you would be crazy. A twin axle of that size is a big heavy caravan. The reason the manual states that you should not tow immediately is that all the bearings within the engine need time to gently bed in and putting that kind of strain on it straight away can lead to uneven wear patterns and excessive wear before everything has settled down. I have an xc90 v8 and tow a bailey senator wyoming twin axle very similar to yours in size and weight and whilst the car copes admirably with it there is no getting away from it it is having to work hard. Had you done a 500 hundred gentle miles or so first that would be different but if I were you I would certainly not do it straight from new!

Well we did tow with it this weekend (with 70 miles on the clock) and I can honestly say it towed fantastic, I kept the rev around the 2000 mark without letting it labour at all. It pulled like a train, time will tell but I'm sure everything is just as it should be. So next weekend it will be caravaning here we go again

Q for Big Stew!

Could you tell me how long it was from when your car was on the production line until you collected it from your dealer please?

Ours was finished off the produciton line on 26th March, but Volvo UK said it wouldn't be with my dealer until 15th April!

Seemed a long time to me...

I want it now!! *stamps feet* Ohhhhhwuh!
