What wax/polish do you use?
For the last few years, I have been using Autoglym Super resin polish or the trade version (Radiant wax polish), I find it a great product in that it sort of works as a mild cutting agent and applies polish at the same time,
I used to use T-Cut on dull paint and whilst it was still applied to the car I would go over the top with Simoniz MaxWax and buff it off with stockinette, this is going back about 10 years ago when I ran a car spares and accesory shop in Dagenham, I found that the Simoniz MaxWax was dead easy to use and gave a brilliant shine, we had several different products on the shelves at the time and it was cheap and done what it said on the packet. When I had my BMW M5 I used to use Autoglym products all the time, the whole range tbh and it was great stuff, the other day I was tidying my shed up and I came accross a bottle of Original Turtle Wax Hard Shell Shine, and I thought I would give it a try on a friends car, just on one wing, the car dadnt need cutting back and the paint was in good order, anyway I gave it the once over with this Turtle Wax and what a suprise, I couldnt believe the shine! I didnt have a camera handy or I would have took a pic, this was the normal bog standard Turtle wax : http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/TURTLE-WAX...ht_2836wt_1139 I was so impressed I have just ordered the above product as it seems such good value, I checked the same stuff in Halfords and its about 7-8 quid for half the size, the wax itself was easy to apply, it took a bit more elbow grease than MaxWax to remove but what a pukka shine! Just goes to show that we sometimes overlook the old original stuff, I used a couple of microfibre cloths to apply and remove!

I'm an Autoglym fan..always have been..and like you, I use the super resin polish ( I also used the radiant wax when I was in the "trade" and could get it FREE..LOL). The prep dept. always used it on used cars and it always gave a great finish.
I've tried many over the years but always seem to go back to Autoglym. Neil

Also an Autoglym fan, but for older paintwork you can't beat MER in my book, brilliant stuff.

Meguairs Gold Class wash
Autoglym Super Resin Polish or Extra Gloss Protection (Or both depending on much time/energy I've got and how hot it is ) Used to use DoDoJuice (iirc) Orange Crush Wax - Smelt of oranges, beaded well, and seemed to stay clean quite well, but I've been using one of the Red Meguiars bottles over the last few weeks but it doesn't last as well. Got an old bottle of Mer wax in the garage that I keep meaning to try out. |

Ive never tried Meguires tbh but heard good reviews, when I used to take my car to show and shines there would be loads of chaps with Meguires, I always used Autoglym, I have over 10 litres of that radiant polish (Super Resin) I got a deal on it years back, its pukka stuff, I also was one of the first people to use the Aqua wax (Express wax Trade), I met the A G rep when I went to a show at Gaydon Moto

Being a bit anal about it...
When it is getting a bit 'sticky'
If it is really mucky, I rinse it with cold water (with no additives) and wipe off with a micro-fibre cloth - never a chamois because that seems too harsh. And after that, Meguiars Detailing spray whenever it needs a clean and a glass cleaner spray for the front windscreen. But... I don't do the tyres! I'm not quite that anal.

Yeah Ive heard really good news about that platinum range of Turtle Wax, I was so impressed with the original stuff the other day, albeit a bit harder to buff off but what a lovely finish, it dont break the bank either so I would use it on run of the mill stuff and save my A G stuff for the best cars, is the Platinum TW the one that smells of coconuts?

Some people dont like the glossy look on the tyres as it can look fake and tacky, if you want to revive the sidewalls to look like new matt sheen finish, get a rag with some cellulose thinners on and give them a wipe over, be carful if you have painted rims and dont soak the rag so its dripping wet, but it comes up looking like a new tyre, natural rather than the forecourt shine, or if you do like the shine and want a cheap way to do it rather than the spray on stuff, Paraffin does the job, most hand car wash gaffs use it, it wont last too long but brings the tyres up if you are tarting a motor up to sell on: Another tip I was once told by a limo hire bloke was that as long as the windows and wheels are clean, the rest of the car will look great, but if you polish the granny out of the car and forget the wheels and or the windows the car will look shabby and its sooo true!
