oh no ......MOT DAY !!!!
Oh Yes Chaps,Its here ,
Dropped the Amazon off at Garage this morning and as of ten to five today shes STILL on the ramp. apparently the rear support arms nuts have rusted so badly theyve more or less welded themselves in(no jokes please) ,resulting in the mechanic (also MOT man) cursing the car and its owner to high heaven ....OOOEERR . Still ,Hopefully when fitted ,Ill loose that weird nudge when changing gear . SO far two new tyres required MOT wise .If thats the end of it Ill be well chuffed ...I just hope MoT man is in a forgiving mood tommorow...somehow I dont think so ... Pray for me and my Bank balance Best regards |

Hope it's not too painful!
What exactly is it that need replacing in the rear suspension - I thought that you'd recently had it all redone? http://x-files.serveftp.com/paulhark...ture.sized.jpg 1967 Amazon 122S B20 o/d Estate, 1961 A-H Sprite Mk2 948cc |

RE: oh no ......MOT DAY !!!!
Morning Chaps,
Hope you are both in fine fettle and your garage bills will all be small ones. Yeah I did get the rear done ,stupidly I didnt get the two upper support bars replaced as they looked ok ...you know ,the two thinner bars .These are the ones that have turned out to be so corroded that they are now flapping about as what were once rubber bushes have crumbled away and mostly fallen out .Its my own fault ,I shouldda got ALL the bits done and not tried to cut cost. Anyway today is the day ....fingers crossed no more work required for a while and the same goes for you two as well . best regards Stuart |

YIPPPPPPEEEEEE
Passed the MOT ,only the two new tyres on the sheet ...thank you GOD The MOT man said he was quite suprised he couldnt find anything else wrong and was amazed how solid the car was given its age .I said it was just as well as I do 40 miles a day in her . So there we are then ....another year of blissful driving lies ahead. What an absolute GEM the Amazon is . How are you both getting on with yours? |

RE: oh no ......MOT DAY !!!!
Stuart, glad to hear that was all that needed doing. Hugh - my commiserations.
Just collected it this afternoon (as haven't been allowed to drive until today - doctor's orders), and all is now ok! A bit more work than expected was required, but the welder kept to his estimate :-) The repaired areas now stick out like a sore thumb as due to the fresh and glossy dark blue paint - I need to sort out the rest of the car now! Pics will follow shortly in my original thread. As to the rest of the MOT, it just needed a brake pipe and new wiper blades. There's also some gaffer tape on the rust around the headlights (to keep the MOT tester happy), but I'll stuff that with filler and blow it in with a spray can to make it a bit more presentable for the time being (the wings are scrap anyway, and I already have a replacement pair in storage). http://x-files.serveftp.com/paulhark...ture.sized.jpg 1967 Amazon 122S B20 o/d Estate, 1961 A-H Sprite Mk2 948cc |

RE: oh no ......MOT DAY !!!!
Glad to hear you re back on the road in both respects!
Did you know that Gaffer tape is rumoured to be "the force" in star wars ? Reason being ,it is all around us ,its infinitely strong and holds the universe together . ahem, any way ,moving swiftly on .....what an incredible difference having the two tie bars replaced has made .The steering wander has gone as has the sideways nudge when changing gear . I wasnt impressed with the tune up though as the car seems to lack a little bit of acceleration .Im going to replace the carb/manifold gasket tommorow as I suspect a leak .The evidence is a bit of run on when I switch the engine off when hot ,and a little less umph . Carb could do with a good clean anyway . best regards old chap |

RE: oh no ......MOT DAY !!!!
I find that wherever and whenever I take my Amazon for a tune-up, it always comes back with different running quirks. Some places tune them a bit rich, some by ear, some with various clever reading tools. The most annoying, at least for me, is when it comes back with the following : there is a flat spot when you first put your foot down, like a little "thinking time", and then the power kicks in. So when you're on a roundabout and you think, "yeah, I can beat that bus that's just pulled away", you then put your foot down, and not much happens... until an air horn goes off in your lug-ole...and just then you get the power!
I presume that this is tuning on the slightly weak side. Although I suppose it does give you better economy. My timing gear rattle has not got any worse. Anyone offer any thoughts on how much more noisy a steel one is? Tom |
