Sorry but I beg to differ.....

Had a 57 plate myself that I bought for the Mrs and kept it for 3 years - 80k miles later. Only problem we had was alternator went at 160k, plus consumables (brakes, tyres, one wheel bearing, bulbs...)

Ultra comfortable seats, very quick to warm up, very practical car and nice to drive.

The electrics are very reliable - expensive to sort when they go wrong I grant you but reliable otherwise.

No rust whatsoever when we sold it in Feb this year with 180k on it.
