Well put, Luxobarge.
Very off topic but many years ago I was one of the BBC engineers working at the Maida Vale studios. We were always happy to help people out when we could. One day a chap came into the workshop and asked if we had a meter that would measure up to 15 Amps and if so, could he borrow it over the weekend. There were regular requests to borrow test gear and we seldom declined a request since it kept us in beer; then as now, a precious commodity. We did have such a meter but fortunately I had the foresight to ask what he wanted it for. This is where I show my age! He'd just moved into a flat with round pin plugs and wasn't sure whether they were 5 Amp or 15 Amp sockets so he thought he could just borrow our meter, stick it across the mains and see if it read 5 or 15 Amps! A few gentle words of explanation followed saying why this would not be a good idea; much embarassment and downright danger was avoided, to say nothing of the destruction of our meter. For DC, the amount of current available is determined by the internal resistance of the supply and the amount of current drawn is dependant on the resistance of the load. Back to the original question. I think the socket is probably good for 10 Amps which is more than enough for any USB adaptor I've ever encountered. Martin. PS. We lent him a couple of round pin plugs we had kicking around and asked him to see what fitted. Turned out most of them were 15 Amp sockets. |
