Default Cheers from Abraham!

Having said farewell to Matthew (a FF V70 auto) Abraham arrived in February this year, a 2.4i Auto: it was converted forthwith by Autogas 2000 @Thirsk.

The good news is that, having finally done a decent run (500) in a day. I can report that the V70 returned 52mpg [B]equivalent, the lighter V50 does 56mpg.

Perhaps, as I now crawl towards my goverment pocket money, this might be my last proper motor so I might keep it as long as Captain Jack has kept his
V70!

Diesels - HUH!

Hmmm - impressive mpg figures, but you've a way to go yet!!!!!

This week Lovejoy my 'elderly' 97 V70 has passed 215500 miles, AND is still going as well as ever, AND passed the MoT with no advisories. The car is all original bar the usual service items, tyres, brakes, windscreen, battery, droplinks, wishbones and cambelt.

It is now well over 160,000 miles since John and Chris at Autogas 2000 performed their magic and got me converted (for a mere £1700). I reckon that in that time I've saved something in excess of £12,000 in fuel costs. Current fuel costs are around 10p per mile - equivalent to 53mpg on 'ordinary' fuels.

I guess that maybe I've been a bit lucky, but in this age of throw-away technology I have to say that I am well pleased with both my Volvo and the LPG. The next 'target' is to reach the 250,000 mark - and then who knows? A cambelt change will be due at that point - and then we'll be set up for the 300,000 miles mark!

Cheers

Jack

PS: What's a 'diesel'?

Default More on LPG costs

Out of interest, my LPG costs are 10p per mile, my service costs over the years have worked out at 3p per mile. Insurance courtesy of Admiral is £350 a year for two cars, so I guess my bit of that is £175, road tax is £200 per year. Depreciation is of course zero - according to ' webuyanycar.com' he's worth £50!

I do 25,000 miles per year, with zero depreciation, so annually, Lovejoy costs me less than 15p per mile - all in!

I can't imagine that any new car could come anywhere close to that - and still give me total reliability, comfort, load-space, leather seats, ECC etc etc etc.

There's a lot to be said in favour of running an old Volvo on LPG.

Cheers

Jack

PPS: Of that 25,000 annual miles, 10,000 are business miles for work at 40p per mile, which adds up to £4,000 per year TAX FREE in my pocket! How many other Volvologists on here own cars that actually make money????!!!!
