Rear fogs
I’m driving a 2012 D5 SE AWD
My question is, should both rear fog lamps illuminate? I realise by law I only need one, either centre or off side. Both lamps have good bulbs and are both connected to the loom, it is the offside that is working. Thanks in advance Deck1ng |

The oft asked question!
The thinking is that if both lights were illuminated it becomes difficult to distinguish between fog lights and brake lights. When the single foglight is lit then you KNOW where the outer edge of the car in front is. All well and good. However, I prefer both lit. If you cannot see the RUNNING lights of the car in front perhaps you should not be moving. If I see a car with 2 red lights lit...….I know there is a car there! So. No, it is normal now to have just the one. (Although you could "enable" the second connection with a little d.i.y.!!) |

As far as I know:
One fog light is illuminated during normal driving (in fog) but if you make an emergency stop/hard braking, the other fog light starts flashing. One light only for the fog light brake light confusion thing.

Yep that's what I thought the 2nd illuminates in emergency stop type situations.

Both of mine illuminate when I turn the fogs on. Not sure about the emergency braking situation

Regarding the emergency braking it is only the brake lights that flash to be replaced by the hazards once the car has slowed down. |

I've got a 2011 S60, I had to wire up the nearside bulb when I exported my car. I asked a Volvo main dealer to do it, they ran a wire from one bulb to the other which, unsurprisingly, tripped out.
