The current solution I have (stainless steel Allen bolts screwed directly into M6 threads tapped into the plastic wing) works fine, and would probably be sufficient. I'd like to improve it by setting some metal inserts into the 8 holes in the plastic. Rivnuts seem to be a good solution, I have not used then previously but this has been one of the advantages of this forum: if I have not known about something then someone else has. Many thanks (again) to Dave in this instance. Alan |

Promotion!
Gosh, I have just noticed that I have become a 'senior member', rather than just a 'member' of this forum.
I feel quite grand now! Alan |

I think it a good call to retain the boot spoiler.Once you've painted the boot lid you could use Tiger Seal,Sikaflex[other such product]either as a stand alone method of holding it or in conjunction with nuts/bolts,rivnuts/whatever.

What John said ^^^^^
You certainly have earned it Alan. You've brought the RB on in leaps and bounds sorting its little foibles and making improvements along the way.

Boot Lid
Good morn,
I managed to get the boot lid painted yesterday - for a rattle can job I think it came out very well indeed: ... lots of minor repairs, then primer, two coats of Volvo 136 and one of lacquer. I'm pleased with the result. |

Thank you Dave,
It is not perfect, but I didn't want perfect - otherwise I'd have ended up having the whole car repainted. The colour is a pretty good match, allowing for 40 years of UV light and a bit of rain. I'd meant to do a bit more to the Royal Barge today, but a mate's Vauxhall is broken down on the driveway (the CV joint fell apart whilst reversing out) - so it looks like we will have to get a new drive shaft put in first. Ho hum, there is always something more to do :-) Alan |
