Which is why I said 'could still drive the car safely depending on conditions'. The OP reported the wiper problem on start up, not a sudden failure on a motorway.
As you say, you are a sample of one. These problems are not widespread. Most owners have few, if any, problems but as I said before these cars are complex systems and some owners seem to have their unfair share of issues.
I am sorry that you and crashbarrier have had issues with your cars. I hope the issues get resolved.
