Default Boot open notification error

My dash occasionally puts up the "your boot is open" notification. It doesn't seem to ever be so but having a dog in the boot this has meant some unscheduled and unwelcome stops on motorway hard shoulders recently.

I assume it's a dodgy sensor. Can anyone offer further thoughts - anyone else had this issue - and if there is a known fix can anyone help me shortcut to the correct solution.

Thanks in advance

It could be the sensor in the lock. It could also be a faulty wire in the connector at the rear end of the roof, where everything destined for the rear door passes.
I had a bad ground connection up there, and that gave the same result as you see. Try running the rear wiper when you see the message. In my case, nothing in the rear door worked when the issue was active.

Ok, so the tailgate wiper and washer still operate fine when the message comes up.

The door is still actually closed - every time. However I can't ignore it as can't deposit 30kg of dog on the outside lane of motorway if one day it does come open.

Any thoughts on parts to look at. It's totally intermittent and not capable of being induced, so will have to start with most likely option (taking into account cost of part and fitting).

Could it still be a bad earth? I'd imagine it could be - only needs it to flag for a moment? Where are the likely connector and harness so can check out if the connection is solid?

Cheers

The connectors at rear end of roof - do we mean in the light unit? Is this the same bunch as is jailbroken for the rear light mod - which no I didn't do in the end.

The connectors are at the rear end of the roof, just in front of the rubber hose that routes the wiring from the roof into the back door.
