Oil temperature sensor installation
On my journey to getting the whole set of auxiliary gauges in place, I would be very interested to hear everyone's opinion on oil temperature sensor installation, particularly with regards to location. I'm guessing that for a wet sensor the sump is always best, but nobody seems to do an adapter for the weirdly sized redblock sump plug, at least that I can find - please correct me if I'm wrong, since that would make my life a lot easier! But if not, is my only option to get tapping? There's an M10x1 VDO sensor that I could tap a hole in the sump for (I'm planning to use the Volvo VDO gauge).
Any advice/experience/theories/wild speculation warmly welcomed.

Is the sump thick enough to tap?

The oem gauges used a special sumo plug with the sender built in. I have one and lent it to my dad but him being a dick dropped the engine on it when he removed it and snapped the connection tab off.

If people need small parts machined like a sender to sump plug adapter i can help facilitate. My local machinist run his little shop on this kind of work and i can send the part on.

Thank you for the responses guys. I've since discovered Skandix stocks a version of the built-in sender plug (the one place I didn't think to check!) so I've ordered one and will give it a go.

The sump plug is on the underside of the sump. A projecting sensor and wire would surely be a bit vulnerable to scraping from road debris etc? I would have thought a side-mounting would be better?
