Well, car is driving 100% normal again, early days I’ve only done 80miles but it is a very stark difference. Currently I can’t recommend Horton card enough!

Good to hear. What did they do? Just a VB clean-up?

Sounds good - pretty sure my older Xc90 (06 plate 185bhp) needs this - or at least the full flush (as well as a suspension refresh etc etc etc). near on 200k miles and FVSH.

What was total £££ in the end? More than a grand and I am off to the scrappy with the old bus! Have a 14 plate R design and a new 18.5 R design on the way but my missus says the old one is like an "old shoe" and she wants to keep it for the school run.

Default Gearbox Problem?

I brought my '06' plate XC90 (It's a diesel AWD 2.4) in December. 122k miles on the clock.

A week ago my car flared when changing from 2nd - 3rd gear.

Joined this website. Read the horror stories. Booked the car into an independent volvo garage.
The mechanic ran a diagnostic and came up with a fault code he had not seen before and the volvo diagnostic information did not specify the exact problem.

I got the transmission fluid changed and crossed my fingers.

The car 'flared' twice yesterday post transmission fluid change.

However......it only happens when I am driving around 20-30mph uphill and it seems like the car cannot decide whether to change from 2nd - 3rd.

There have been no issues with any other gear changes.

Ideas anyone?

(Please do not recommend a new gear box unless you want to make a grown man cry!!)

My suggestion:

Keep with it a little longer, the gearbox will be adapting to the new fluid. Get the fluid checked after 2,000 miles or so and if its gone black again get it changed.

It might be worth getting a Volvo dealer to check it - there are software updates to the TCM to reduce flare in certain circumstances. These were released long ago but it is worth checking it's up to date.
