Advice on a used 2015 Volvo XC90 I am considering buying
Hi,
I have provisionally agreed to buy a used Volvo XC90 from an approved Volvo Selekt dealer (paid £500 refundable deposit). In brief it is a 2015 XC90 T6 supercharged petrol, Saville grey (metallic paint) having done 23,000 miles. Extra features including the Bowes and Wilkin sound system, cream nappa perforated leather, heated front and rear seats, apple car play, CD player, BLIS and head-up display, 360 camera and parking assist pilot, dark tinted rear windows and 3 pin socket plug in centre console . The only thing it is missing is a heated steering wheel and front windscreen (which I can't get because off the head-up display). The car is generally in very good nick and most blemishes apart from a significant one of the passenger front door should come out with a good valet. Worst come worst I have been told this can be replaced altogether for approximately £800. I have added the following to the car: - Integrated running boards with LED illumination - Mudflaps (front and rear) - Bumper protection (already has a tailgate scuff plate) - Mat passenger mats for all 3 rows - Carpet load liner for the boot I have provisionally agreed to pay £41,000 for this car but not signed anything yet. I was wondering to pick your brains as to whether or not you think I've got myself a good deal here or not? Thanks in advance. Vinny |

I would say although it has a good spec it is top end price for a 2015 car the blemishes, are they going to valet the car and repair any blemishes. I would make that a condition of sale. What variant XC90 is it, R design, Momentum, or Inscription.
Its nice to see used XC90 prices are holding up, from an original buyer point of view. Last edited by nu11eaf; Apr 16th, 2018 at 14:31. |

Heard from the radio this morning and apparently there is a Volvo used Selekt event this weekend. 0% APR and 2 free service I think...

TBH that price seems a bit toppy to me.
What was the original list price? Exactly how old is it? 2.5 years, 3 years?

So 3 years old and retaining 60 percent of original list price then, when a big chunk of the list price was made up of extras which potentially depreciate more quickly......
It does seem a very toppy price then. I always think with any car that 50 percent recovery from list after 3 years is good going, which would value your vehicle at 34,250. Have you run a valuation check from WhatCar or similar?

What Car reckon 50% residuals for a D5, 42% for a T8 and worst of all for the T6 (although no number is quoted).
So a T6 is worse than 42% then. Lets call it 40%. Which makes yours worth 27,400. Plus an adjustment for lower mileage. Plus your extras (I estimate about a grands worth) plus dealer premium but you are still only in low to mid thirties and nowhere near early forties.....

I think it's also down to demand and supply. It seems like everyone is buing a SUV now. I was looking for one too and the cheapest that I managed to find that adhere to that 50% depreciation logic is a car that has done more than 60K mileage.
And I noticed every Volvo dealers are "colluding" indirectly on their used car prices to maintain a price consistency I guess. But the good news is, it pushed down the prices for used sedans like the S90 which has depreciated much more compare to the similarly priced XC60 2 years ago...

Thanks for all of your helpful comments guys.
As nice as the car, I feel like I am paying slightly over the odds for it - probably £1.5-2K's worth. I'll have a think and run it by the boss (the Mrs) this evening! Hoping I can convince her its a good investment in the long-term and I usually run my cars into the ground before replacing willy nilly! |
