Don’t worry about the SIM card modem. If you discover you want it later, just get a cheapie sim, lots of threads on here suggesting some pre-paid options. Or, use personal hotspot on your phone. I’ve been doing this with no issues.

Thanks Biggy G.

In your (and everyone's experience) how useful is collision mitigation/city safety? I mean although it sounds great, how often do people actually use it?

Thanks in advance!

When you are paying this much for a 3 yo you definitely don’t want to compromise on active safety or lack of PA2. Drop it and shop around a bit more. In all likelihood they will ask you what would work. This is not a good or even fair deal unless you are getting at least what I mentioned earlier.
T6 are rare but they are also not very desirable due to high taxes and poor consumption. They will generally be high spec as they were bought by people who couldn’t wait for t8 till jan16 but wanted all the bells and whistles and the new look xc90. Their cost was not far off t8 if you included the government rebate and extra options on t8. If you are willing to sacrifice those for better refinement than the diesel it is for you - but there are not many people like that on the used market so you have the negotiating power.

Although my City Safety is on an XC60, it has saved me several times. Twice at roundabouts (classic example of its intended purpose), and once to slap me down after a bout of red mist (please don’t judge).

On the motorway, the collision mitigation kicked in when the car I was following suddenly slowed down. It wasn’t until after, I realised that the car in front didn’t have any working brake lights.

As has been posted in other threads, we as a group of Volvo owners tend not to be boy racers, and drive more sedately and responsibly, but I, for one, am still grateful for the helping hand, once in a while.

Thanks guys - really helpful pearls of wisdom.

Seeing as one of the main reasons for getting the car was so that I had some peace of mind whilst my wife drove herself and a young family, I think the decision to give this a miss has been made!

I bought my XC90 inscription in june 2016, it is a 2017 MY car and has a lot more safety features than the previous cars, including PA2 and Adaptive cruise control and safety plus.
I would strongly advise you look for a car from 2017 MY.

Attached is a price list and spec sheet dated May 2015 for cars sold that year (i.e. MY 2016). City Safety (AEB) is standard but Intellisafe Pro was an extra £1,250 option across all variants and included:
  • Adaptive Cruise with Distance Alert
  • Queue Assist
  • Lane Keeping Aid
  • Blind Spot Information System with Cross Traffic Alert
  • Rear Collision Mitigation
Personally, I wouldn't consider buying a car without these.

As others have said the asking price is on the high side. It's definitely worth checking if it has Intellisafe Pro as it seems a strange omission on an otherwise high-spec'd car. Note that if it does have Intellisafe Pro it will have Pilot Assist 1 unless it was subsequently updated to PA2.

And in case you need it, here's the March 2016 price list for MY17.

You can have ALL the features on my16 - I do, but I paid to upgrade from pa1 to pa2 and I had to originally spec it all in as well, no retrofit is possible. A lot of TJ fixes which are not recalls should be applied but are not obligatory and my16 had more than my17. If the previous owner didn’t bother complaining they would be missing. With my17 a lot of that is standard.
Whatever you buy ask them to reset gearbox adaptation (over time it gets into pretty bad state), latest software and latest maps.

Remember my17 is registrations from may16 onwards. It may be harder to find t6 as it was a silly choice once t8 came out; T8s would mainly be on 3y leases as they are company cars so you need to wait another year for those to flood the used market.
You are right to look for high spec as you pay very little extra for it and get a hell of a lot more car. Do sit in various interiors so you know what you don’t want - my wife has absolutely rejected the original inscription so we just hog specced the momentum, she doesn’t mind the new one, she hated every r design courtesy we had. You are in a good position to pick up exactly what you want and you don’t need to pay over the odds for it.

I am sure you will find one that fits in with your budget and one that is reasonably priced without having to compromise too much on safety features.....yes, lives do matter!! All the best in your search; it is just a matter of ‘when’ rather than ‘if’....Good luck!!
