PV brake cylinder
Now that I have managed to get the brakes working somewhat and replacing mas' cylinder, shoes brake cylinders and flex pipes my next job is to improve. I would like to fit larger brake cylinders to reduce the peddle effort. I am looking for Wagner WC19236 or equivalent.I can get them from USA but it's a real hastle importing and expensive. can anyone help. I'm not too good at internet searching On line connections here are glacially slow

Proceed with caution. A larger diameter cylinder requires more fluid to move the pistons the same distance. This means a longer pedal movement. Drum front brakes on the PV are notorious for snatching and pulling to one side so adding another unknown factor into the mix might make for poorer brakes. Volvo themselves did list a servo for the PV but perhaps not ideal with snatchy drum brakes.

Coincidentally there was an episode of Wheeler Dealers with a PV 544 as the subject matter. Not sure if you’re familiar with the show, they find a classic car, repair /upgrade it and sell it on. In any event on this particular show rather than convert to discs the brake shoes were refined with Kevlar. Apparently Kevlar provides superior braking.
I came across this while searching for the episode: https://www.landyzone.co.uk/land-rov...ealers.311014/ Have a read, you may want to investigate the reference to the UK supplier mentioned and see what there recommendation is. I have no experience or knowledge about this, so others may chime in. |
