I was very disappointed that the free Android Car Scanner app (used with a Bluetooth ELM327) failed to display DPF info on my VEA D4. But it is useful for presenting other live data.
I believe the OP has the 5-cylinder engine, so should be able to use this app. There is an excellent thread on the forum where a member performs a huge amount of diagnostic trials to confirm DPF loading and regen parameters, etc.

Is profile simply whatever you choose for 'my car'? I previously entered 'Volvo V60 VEA', so this evening I've uninstalled then reinstalled the app and entered (wrote in manually) my vehicle as 'VOLVO 2014+ VEA engine'... does that really now make it access the DPF sensor data? I'll try it tomorrow, but I want to get it right first!

Car Scanner ELM OBD2
Hi Zebster,
Here is the proper method: Settings - Connection - Choose Connection Profile - write: Volvo You can choose among available profiles: Volvo 2010+ Volvo 2014+ VEA engine (not SPA) Volvo OBD-II Volvo Platform 2 with CAN 29-bit protocol After choosing one profile, I strongly suggest closing app completely and launching it again. |

Thanks again Piotrek for helping me with this.
Before I saw your latest post I did again try to read the DPF sensors, but obviously failed. So I've just followed your instructions and chosen the correct connection profile and so I'll try this again and report back (probably early next week). It seems an odd place to select your vehicle profile! How did you find it there?

Yes, it now displays DPF data!
I now need to work out what it all means (and whether I trust it). From another forum thread specific to D5 DPF soot accumulation, I was expecting figures for soot accumulation in the range 10 - 40g, however instead of a soot figure had an 'ash accumulation' of over 60g... and I thought that ash and soot were different accumulations? However I hardly had time to play with it, so may have missed other important info? But thanks again, at least it now gives DPF sensor readings.

"Ash amount var.2" seems to show correct data for soot in DPF. How much is it?
It should be in the range 0 g-28 g, soot regeneration usually starts at 26-28 g. Last edited by piotrek; Apr 2nd, 2019 at 14:16. |

It said 6g for that factor, so as you say I'll assume that's the soot accumulation figure. It also said my last regeneration was 195 miles ago, so that does seem consistent.
I'm going out with my wife tomorrow, so I'll let her drive while I have a good play with this new toy!

When using profile "Volvo2014+ (VEA engine)" in Car Scanner ELM OBD2, you might observe sudden jumps in DPF soot level (e.g. soot slowly reached 5g then suddenly jumped to 17-18g, eventually dropped to 0g), with rising DPF and exhaust temperatures. It is not app bug - a rapid DPF regeneration had just occured. DPF pressure was artificially increased - DPF pressure is used for calculating soot amount in DPF filter - so this indicator is temporarily incorrect. But in the end it usually drops to 0g. "Distance from last DPF regen" should display 0.
VEA-engines seem to regen frequently and quickly, even when soot level is low (eg. 6g or 11g). Also soot in VEA-engines drops gradually while driving if engine speed exceeds 2000 rpm. Older 5-cylinder Volvo engines start DPF regeneration only when filter accumulated 20g or 25g soot, and it usually takes 20-30 minutes. |
