Got the dreaded "EL current high warning" last week, so I replaced my alternator over the weekend. Easy job, took just over an hour to get the whole thing done. Then spent two hours hunting down the blown fuse causing a bunch of random issues. At least the fuse did its job and protected the ECU when the alternator crapped out.

Today I'm tackling the track rod ends and an alignment.

I drove round West Cornwall in search of a Volvo specialist. After visiting a few garages I spotted a Vauxhall VRX8 in black, 2008 plate. Lovely. 41K on it, 3 owners and pretty mint.

Got talking to the garage owner and he suggested a place called RM Autos in Longrock near Penzance. Drove straight there. Sure enough, about 12 Volvos parked outside, established 25 years and guy came out to have a look at Gloria.

He has VADIS - bonus. And can 'Treat' modified cars that are ill. Taking it in for a look next week.

Filled up with the old Shell V Power and decided I would do what the internet suggests - clean fuel cap with WD40 and chuck some vaseline on the filler cap...my 'Engine Management Service Required' message and Engine light disappeared!!!

Drove home, did the same thing. The Rav4's engine management light disappeared. I guess those petrol caps click for a reason....

Back in the Volvo and the 'Anti Skid Service Required' has also disappeared, then it came on again, then disappeared, on again. Ordered reluctor rings and 2 x Ford sensors.

Finished painting my chipped alloy.

Used a stanley knife blade and some alloy wheel cleaner to make my wing mirrors clean enough to see things in them

Oil change, fuel filter change, Diesel Purge done and I found out that my tank pump isn't working.
A job for another day.

I also changed the manual gearbox fluid, replaced the leaking driveshaft seals and disassembled the front struts to work out what needs updating.

Videos on manual gearbox oil change, driveshaft and seal replacement and shock replacement will follow over the next few days.

Thanks Dave.
I'd noticed that the Activation function did nothing in Vida but I'm also getting no sign of the pump working at any point in the Parameters section either.
I also can't hear it working and there's no voltage drop across the fuse (33) so it's not drawing any current either.

When I changed the fuel filter, I normally fill the new one so there's no cutting out on restarting but I was feeling lazy and did the key to Pos II (multiple times) priming instead.
The car started because of the fuel in the engine area but then cut out and no amount of ignition cycling changed it.
I ended up having to prime the system using a vacuum pump on the fuel return line and the car runs fine again.

The tank pump not working on the Euro 3 isn't a big deal so long as you don't let it run too low but it's going to annoy me so I'll sort it at some point.

I'm on holiday in Cornwall, so I've eaten a pasty the size of my head and generally struggled with the turning circle of a v70r in beach and pub car parks.

On the bright side though, after complaining it has the turning circle of a small moon, the kids have named it the Death Star which seems to have stuck.

I also had a the check light and a message pop up... But as the Death Star still talks Japanese, I'm ignoring that one

I drive my T5 around St Ives frequently. My advice - leave V70R at St Erth train station and get the train in. You don't want to drive your V70R around St Ives. Avoid any streets in Penzance too as the kerbs are big and made of granite.

Also, the Seagulls in St Ives don't care how big you are. If you walk down the road with a pasty or sausage roll in your hand down by the harbour they will dive-bomb you. And they are big.
